From May 7th to August 29th 2009, the city hall is opening its doors to the multiform art of master of engineering Gustave Eiffel, in a mesmerizing and unique exhibition. As he is walking around, the visitor is discovering the fundamentals of Eiffel’s way of creation and metallic reproductions, the whole in an entertaining visit. The passion that nourished this technique genius has contributed to marvelous landscapes where all his eternal and monumental works are reigning! Whether it be the statue of liberty in New-York or the metallic roof structure in the Budapest train station, the trace left by the constructor has marked the world as well as collective minds.
Undisputed main event of this exhibition, the Eiffel Tower is the ultimate and vanguard work of this brilliant and unprecedented career. The triumphing Iron Lady, as people call it, is exhibited in the center of the Saint-Jean room. Around the structure, panels are explaining its appearance and inauguration that had brought many worries but also incredible inspiration. For its creator, the Eiffel Tower will be an excuse for a dedicated research in aerodynamics, placing him as one of the pioneers in the field.
The confidential universe of Gustave Eiffel is revealed throughout pictures, depicting places where he lived as well as his family. Behind the apparent rationality of the engineer, was a shy and imaginative man. We can see all his hidden faces in his very famous scientific biography, where all his unachieved projects and extravagant techniques are exposed. A fun visit that will make you understand better the Eiffel Tower, that is celebrating its 120th anniversary this year.
Open from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 19pm. Closed on Sunday and legal holidays. Free entrance.
