Tiré de l'album Floodland, Dominion (Mother Russia) est une chanson de groupe de rock new-wave gothique anglais The Sisters Of Mercy.
Le groupe, mené par le chanteur Andrew Eldritch, tire son nom d'une chanson de Leonard Cohen. Un groupe faisant partie des premiers groupes du mouvement gothique, avec The Cure, Christian Death et Cocteau Twins. Le groupe s'est fondé en 1980, cette chanson date de 1987.
Elle dure 7 minutes, est en deux parties (la violence dance de Dominion, la glauque attitude de Mother Russia et son refrain martial) et est mené par des claviers très new-wave et la voix sépulcrale, glauque, terrifiante, rauque d'Andrew Eldritch.
Il suffit de l'écouter chanter et de regarder sa photo pour comprendre ce que gothique veut dire. Caricatural ? Peut-être, et alors ?

Dominion (Mother Russia) est un tube, malgré sa noirceur et sa longueur. Je dois dire que je n'aime pas vraiment les Sisters Of Mercy (ni le rock gothique en général), mais cette chanson, j'adore, car très efficace, elle distille une atmosphère très oppressante et lourde, malgré l'omniprésence des claviers (tout l'album Floodland est d'un ton très new-wave et dance).
Dominion (Mother Russia) fait partie des meilleures chansons de toute la période new-wave, je ne pouvais pas ne pas l'aborder ici !
Vous excuserez un article plus court que d'ordinaire, mais je n'arrive pas à argumenter. Cette chanson est sombre, terrible, et entraînante à la fois. Un must !
