[Mixtape] Mateo « Underneath The Sky (Chapter 3) »

Hier soir j’ai découvert Mateo grâce à la jolie vidéo qui suit. Il s’agit de sa version de ‘Empire State Of mind‘, sa vision de New York. Ce titre est extrait de sa dernière mixtape ‘Underneath The Sky (Chapter 3)‘.

À New York, Mateo fait la connaissance de Jae Staxx, un producteur de Philadelphie sur le point de partir à Los Angeles pour bosser sur le show TV de Eve. Il lui propose de l’embarquer. Mateo quitte son job de consultant et débarque à LA en 2005.

Jusqu’en 2006, Mateo écrit des chansons pour Eve. Puis un jour, il a enfin le courage de monter sur scène. Ça plait beaucoup.  Alors il se décide à poster son tout premier titre sur Myspace : ‘Human‘. Et BIM, plus de 200 000 plays. Il rencontre un mec qui connait un mec qui bosse chez Myspace Records. Il signe en juin 2008.

‘R&B music has turned more into head-bop music; hip-hop beats over hip-hop loops. I want to bring R&B music back to where people actually have some type of emotion when they listen to my music. I want them to feel that not only is it my story, but their story as well; that they identify with it, and will be able to recall the song ten years from now.‘

Son père joue de la guitare, sa grand mère chante, son grand père joue aussi de la guitare mais avec James Brown, il était entre autres musicien studio pour Kings Records. BREF. Les influences sont là et c’est évident que la musique coule dans ses veines à ce petit Mateo.

‘Any song can change you either in a positive or a negative way. I just want people to change in a positive, therapeutic way when they listen to my music, whether it be happy or sad songs. All in all, I’m a love song writer, and that’s where I want to go. I’m the new wave of what that is.‘
