Les arbres du Sud portent un étrange fruit
Du sang sur leurs feuilles et du sang aux racines
Un corps noir se balançant dans la brise du Sud
Un fruit étrange suspendu aux peupliers

Scène pastorale du vaillant Sud
Les yeux exorbités et la bouche tordue
Parfum du magnolia doux et frais

Fruit à déchiqueter pour les corbeaux,

Strange Fruit (Fruit Etrange )  Chanson composée en 1946 par Abel Meeropol afin de dénoncer les Necktie Party ( pendaison) qui avait lieu dans le Sud des Etats Unis et auxquels les Blancs assistaient habillés sur leur 31. Cette chanson fut offerte à Billie Holiday au tout début de sa carrière et fit tout son succès
