Tim Berg, known also as Avicii emerged in the music industry in 2008, when he was 18-years-old, compiling a remix of the theme song to the video game Commodore 64, "Lazy Jones". This led to his first release on Strike Recordings, entitled "Lazy Lace". In 2010, Avicii released a collaboration with fellow Swedish DJ John Dahlbäck, titled "Don't Hold Back." He is additionally working on projects with internationally-recognized DJs Tiësto and Sebastian Ingrosso. While his work is primarily electronic synthetic tracks, EMI released a vocal version of his track "Bromance," titled "Seek Bromance". Today, we have the chance to offer you an exclusive interview with this hot Swedish producer. It follows notably the interview of producers like Fedde Le Grand, M.A.N.D.Y., Henrik B (coming soon), Thomas Schumacher and Nic Fanciulli. First of all, I would like to thank Tim who answered our questions.
“Hello Tim,
In a few days you will go to the Winter Miami Conference. You have already been nominated for 5 IDMAs 2011 notably with your track “Seek Bromance” under 2 categories, but also for you, as a breakthrough DJ. Indeed, 2010 seems to be the year of your explosion, even if you were voted breakthrough DJ/Producer of 2009 and fourth best overall producer by our French Magazine Only for DJs. How do you explain that? Did you change something in your way of working this year?
> Not really, I just think everything came together very well this year. My manager has done an absolute killer of a job and I feel that our releases have been solid!
Will you prepare something special for the WMC to play during your mixs?
> Of course, still a couple of months left though so won't tell you too much but I've got some big gigs for the week I'm there.
What will be your next release?
> Well my first release of the year was “Street Dancer” and it's number 1 of Beatport as we speak [there are some days ago]. Next one will be a remake of the absolute classic Sweet Dreams but under my own version entitled “Swede Dreams”.
2010 is over. For 2011, what we expect from you? New tracks for sure? A compilation maybe? An album?
> Well my manager has the master plan but for me will be new tracks we're working on as well as a couple of nice big comps and maybe an album. We just always want to make sure that everything is of top notch quality.
After we gave this little introduction about your music news to our readers, we wanted to get back to your origins. Indeed, could you please tell us in a few words, how did you become a DJ and producer?
> Well I’m a producer first, I started playing around with my first sequencer about 4 years ago now and then got instantly hooked and spent the next 3 years almost nonstop producing. Then the circus started when I signed to Ash around 2.5 years ago. He taught me all I know about the DJ game and when I started performing I could actually make a living out of music. At this point though it’s hard for me to chose between djing and producing, I love both just as much but in different ways!
At the beginning, did your family understand what you did for a living? And now are they proud of what you achieved along the years?
> They are! Well when I first started it wasn’t really for a living, especially not for them. It was just me playing around a bit on the computer making weird music. They've always been very supportive of me though and my dad always listens to my tracks etc and still today sends me feedback!
Moreover Tim, what do you know about the French electronic music scene? Are there some artists that you personally know or especially love their music?
> I love the French scene! Most of the DJs I know personally are from France and you obviously have a long history of electronic music with Daft Punk, Cerrone, Bob Sinclar, David Guetta etc etc.
Besides music, what are your hobbies?
> Music IS my hobby! I don’t really have many specific hobbies other than music, there really hasn't been any time for that since I started. When I do have time off I try to spend as much time with my friends and family as possible!
Tim, to conclude this interview, we have a few more questions to better know you. Sometimes one word is enough!

> Well there aren't any super clubs there but if I had to choose among the very few I played, I would have to say Trädgården, Gothenburg.

Dans quelques jours, tu va partir pour la Winter Miami Conference. Comment expliques-tu cela? As-tu changé quelque chose dans ta façon de travailler cette année?
> Pas vraiment, je pense juste que tout s'est très bien déroulé cette année. Mon manager a fait un boulot de tueur et je pense que nos sorties ont été solides!
Est-ce que tu prépares quelque chose de spécial pour la WMC à jouer lors de tes mixs?
> Bien sûr, il y a encore quelques semaines avant la WMC. Malheureusement, je ne pourrais pas trop vous en dire plus, mais j'ai eu de gros trucs qui arrivent.
Quelle sera ta prochaine sortie?
> Eh bien, ma première sortie de l'année a été "Street Dancer" et il est déjà numéro 1 de Beatport à l’heure où nous parlons [il y a quelques jours]. La prochaine plus précisément sera un remake du classique d’Eurythmics « Sweet Dreams », mais remixée par mes soins et intitulée «Swede Dreams ».
L’année 2010 est terminée. Pour 2011, qu’est ce qu’on peut attendre de ta part? De nouveaux tracks? Une compilation peut-être? Un album?
> Eh bien, c’est mon manager qui a le plan de route, mais pour moi ce sera bien sur de nouvelles pistes, nous travaillons aussi sur des compositions assez sympas et peut-être même un album. Nous voulons toujours nous assurer que toutes les productions soient d'une qualité de premier ordre.
Après nous avoir donné cette petite introduction sur ton actualité musicale, nous aurions voulu en revenir à tes origines. En effet, pourrais-tu nous dire en quelques mots, comment es-tu devenu DJ et producteur?
> Eh bien je suis d’abord un producteur. J'ai commencé à jouer avec mon premier séquenceur il y a environ 4 ans maintenant, j'ai toute de suite accroché et j’ai donc produit pendant 3 années de suite sans interruption. Ensuite, ma carrière a décollé quand j'ai signé avec Ash, il y a environ 2 ans et demi. Il m'a enseigné tout ce que je sais sur le jeu du DJ et quand j’ai commencé à jouer j’ai ainsi pu vivre de ma musique. À ce stade, bien qu'il soit difficile pour moi de choisir entre djing et production, je dirais que j’aime les deux tout autant mais de façon différente!
Au début est-ce que ta famille a compris ce que tu voulais faire dans la vie? Et maintenant sont-ils fiers de ce que tu as réalisé au fil des années?
> Bien sûr! Eh bien, lorsque j'ai commencé ce n'était pas vraiment ce que je voulais faire dans la vie, et surtout pas pour mes parents. Je faisais juste un peu de musique bizarre sur mon ordinateur. Néanmoins, ils ont toujours été encourageants et mon père écoute par exemple aujourd’hui mes pistes et il m’envoie même encore ses réactions!
Par ailleurs Tim, qu'est-ce que tu connais de la scène de musique électronique en France? Y a t-il des artistes que tu connais personnellement et dont tu aimes la musique?
> J'adore la scène française! La plupart des DJs que je connais personnellement sont de France et vous avez évidemment une longue histoire avec la musique électronique : les Daft Punk, Cerrone, Bob Sinclar, David Guetta, etc. etc.
Et à part la musique, quels sont tes hobbies?
> La musique c'est mon passe-temps! Je n'ai pas vraiment beaucoup de hobbies spécifiques autres que la musique. Je n’ai pas eu beaucoup de temps depuis que j'ai commencé. Quand j'ai du temps libre j'essaie de passer autant de temps que possible avec mes amis et ma famille!

> Eh bien il n'y a pas vraiment de supers clubs, mais si j'avais à en choisir un parmi les très rares où j'ai mixé, ce serait Trädgården à Göteborg.
