Kool Kiss # 34 : Entertainment For The Braindead

A few days ago I made the choice to offer this brand new Kool Kiss Interview to Julia a.k.a. Entertainment For The Braindead.
Why ? Just because I love her music and everyone need to discover that brillant girl...
Julia, can you introduce yourself and explain the name of your project ?
My name is Julia but this music project is called Entertainment For The Braindead. Probably because choosing names is not exactly one of my strengths.
What are your influences ?
Honestly, I can't tell. Probably naming specific artists that seem important and maybe influential to me would be the wrong approach to this question, because at times inspiration lies in the oddest things or situations and besides I guess that lots of influences are subconscious anyway... An important artistic insight can come through cooking a meal as well as through listening to a song.
How do you compose and how much love is important in your songs ?
Well, that's actually two questions in one...
I usually start out with a chord progression or repetetive pattern and then try to find a melody and words that fit. Which then will probably reflect the current state of mind.. at times this is hard, I tend to get sort of lyrically constipated. Then the songs end up as fragments. Lately that happens to lots of them.
As for the love part... that depends on your definition. Lots of my songs try to fathom human relationships of certain kinds, but I would say most of the time it rather tends towards a platonic kind of love.
What is Kool about Entertainment For The Braindead ?
There is nothing cool about Entertainment for the Braindead.
What is Kiss about Entertainment For The Braindead ?
I'm far from being a professional in what I do, but it seems like I have a somewhat cute way of failing.
How do you compose and how much love is important in your songs ?
I compose at home by myself with an idea and my voice my guitar ususally... but now I have started using keyboards and weird instruments. Then take the idea to a producer and in the studio I build the song. I usually have a very clear vision for my songs... its a weird type of conviction that doesnt let go until I have executed it . Of course I have to have love there... If my head is chaotic with too much thought and not enough love I can't work...
Do you plan to come and play in France soon ?
I don't really plan these kinds of things, but I would certainly love to. (If anyone who reads this has any ideas or connections or whatever... let me know...)
Last year I had a very lovely living room show in Paris, I guess one could at least repeat that.
What's you best memory on stage ?
Last summer I was asked to play a festival gig in my own favourite location in my hometown. On the very stage where over the years I had seen so many awesome concerts of bands and artists I really love. I was so anxious and proud to stand up there.. and it was an awesome night indeed.

What are your upcoming projects ?
I'm working on a little animated music video for one of the Roadkill EP tracks. And then I still have to finish a large recording project that I started last summer and stalled for months.. Besides I'm having a lot of fun dabbling with some instrumental stuff but I don't know yet if it will be released or remain a personal experiment.
Either way I wanna learn, learn, learn.
Do you think that kisses could save the world ?
Isn't that a dangerous thesis in times of swine flu and whatsoever?
Thank you very much Julia, we hope to come and see as soon as possible on stage in Paris !
