Death and Vanilla – Rituals (PREMIERE)

Co-réalisé par les labels Hands In The Dark (lire) et Kalligrammofon, le premier LP de Death & Vanilla se matérialisera (enfin) physiquement en compact-disc et vinyle dès le 13 mars prochain. Aussi éponyme que son prédécesseur d’EP – au sein duquel trône pour l’éternité l’élégiaque Ghost In The Machine (lire) – ce nouvel effort des Suédois s’inscrit dans cette même veine délicieusement onirique, où la voix de Marleen Nilsson s’entrelace lascivement aux nébuleuses instrumentations d’Anders Hansson. Rituals, morceau introductif de l’album, savamment mis en image par le duo, compilant à cet effet des extraits de films expérimentaux de Marcel Duchamp, Harry Smith, Georges Franju et Aldo Tambellini, jette avec superbe les bases d’un LP de saison, à écouter emmitouflé sous une couette, lorgnant d’un bon œil la neige s’entassant sur les trottoirs. L’onde vocale, loin d’être glaciale, se meut en duveteuse évocation d’un spleen d’hiver, palpitant au rythme de songes éveillés. De quoi patienter un mois, transi d’impatience.

Distributed in a joint effort by music labels Hands in The Dark and Kalligrammofon, Death & Vanilla’s very first LP will soon be granted a physical (finally) release on CDs and vinyls on 13/03/12. The Swedish band’s second eponymous EP still possesses the same dreamlike quality and is inhabited by Marleen Nilsson lascivious vocals intertwined with Anders Hansson nebulous’ music. The album’s opening track, Rituals, has been given an added visual dimension by the duo through a video constructed of excerpts from the experimental movies of Duchamp, Harry Smith, Georges Franju and the like. It is an incredibly fitting way of communicating the album’s seasonal imagery, all of which is best consumed while wrapped in a duvet, watching the snow falling onto the streets.The wavering vocals are far from icy and drift softly over this aural evocation of winter melancholy, throbbing to the beat of daydreams. It should all be enough to keep you shivering with impatience for another month.
