Sung Jang Laboratory, studio design américain d’inspiration asiatique nous présente 02 Tea Cup, une interprétation épurée de la classique tasse à thé.
Le studio travaille en étroite collaboration avec des artisans céramistes coréens pour une finition parfaite, la tasse est vitrée puis poli mat à l’extérieur pour une prise en main, au creux de la main tel un œuf immaculé. La tasse vient parfaitement se positionner sur une base de bouleau.
Le packaging est également très soigné, une boite en bois paulowinia présente la création tel un écrin.
Une édition limitée à 200 exemplaires, signés et numérotés.
Bio du studio :
« Sung’s creative strength comes from a wide range of experiences in arts and designs. As practitioner of both, as well as having comprehensive international experiences and deep understanding of Asian, American and European cultures, Sung applies broad perspective and unique approaches to design. One of Sung’s main focus of interest in design is to quantify and control qualitative values.
More specifically, in understanding the mechanism of translating traditional and native design essences into designs appropriate in current contexts. Sung Jang Laboratory is a platform to freely experiment with this personal design interests with or without client involvement. Work displayed in this presentation spans a range of work created for client, gallery, autoproduction, and studies.
Graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago with Fine Arts degree, and Domus Academy in Milano with a Masters in Design under teachings of Clino Castelli and several other Italian design masters. Sung began his career in Milano as a designer and design researcher for Samsung Design Milano before taking an adjunct professor position at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago’s Designed Objects program. Sung has co-founded a designer brand gregorysung before establishing his current representation, Sung Jang Laboratory. Separately from SJL, Sung is also a partner and designer at Article, LLC, an industrial design studio in Chicago. »
