#01 My Fabulous London Week-End – Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds

Bonjour tout le monde! Et non je n’ai pas disparu de la blogosphère mais j’ai été occupée et puis vendredi je suis partie à Londres pour le week-end! De temps en temps il faut délaisser le blog pour d’autres passions que la mode! ;) Enfin je ne vais pas vous mentir j’ai fait du shopping quand même!

Ma principale raison pour ce week-end à Londres? Le début de la tournée européenne de Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds. Je pense que si vous me connaissez maintenant, vous savez que je suis fan. N’ayant pas eu la chance de les voir souvent en concert, j’ai décidé d’y remédier et cette année j’ai sauté le pas, et en janvier réservé pour 2 des 3 concerts au Apollo Hammersmith à Londres. J’aurais bien fait le troisième mais j’allais déjà voir Texas à Bruxelles ce jour-là… Un vrai week-end marathon!

Hi everybody! No I didn’t disappear off the face of the earth but I was busy and then last Friday I went to London for the weekend! From time to time you have to leave the blog for other passions that fashion! ;) But I not gonna lie I did some shopping!

My main reason for going to London was the start of the Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds tour. I think that by now you’ve figured out that I am a fan. I haven’t seen them a lot in concert, so this year I immediately bought tickets for 2 of their 3 nights shows at the Apollo Hammersmith in London. I’d have loved to do the third show but I was already seeing Texas that… Crazy weekend, I am telling you!

Pas facile de se décider pour un hôtel car je souhaitais quand même être assez près de la salle de concert. Je me suis donc décidée pour le W12 Rooms situé à Sheperd’s Bush. Niveau situation il était parfait pour moi. Juste à coté d’une station de métro/bus à grande fréquentation et surtout à même pas 5 minutes à pied du grand centre commercial de Westfield. L’hôtel en lui-même était super propre, chambre de taille correcte (une double room est parfaite si vous êtes seule), et vraiment une chouette salle de bain bien pensée vu le peu d’espace. Par contre l’accueil laisse un peu à désirer je trouve, et le plus gros souci pour moi: le bruit. La plupart des hôtels à Londres sont bien insonorisés mais ce n’était pas le cas ici. Ayant ma chambre au premier, côté rue, je n’ai quasi pas dormi le premier jour. Ils n”ont pas de restaurant donc pour le déjeuner vous recevez un voucher pour déjeuner dans un snack juste à côté. Perso je n’ai pas trop aimé donc je n’y ai été qu’une seule fois. Le wifi est aussi gratuit (excellente connexion). Mais il reste un très bon hôtel si vous devez être dans le quartier pour un jour ou deux.

It wasn’t easy to pick a hotel because I wanted to be close to the venue. So I chosed the W12 Rooms located in Sheperd’s Bush. It was well-located next to the underground/bus station, and barely 5 minutes from Westfield shopping center. The hotel itself was clean, nice room size (a double room is perfect if you’re alone), and really a well-thought bathroom considering the small size. But the staff wasn’t the friendliest, and the main issue for me: the noise. My room was on the street and I barely slept the first day with the traffic, ambulances, people screaming,… Also they don’t have a restaurant so they give you a voucher to have breakfast at a snack next door. I personally didn’t really enjoy it so only went once. The wifi is free so that’s good (perfect connection). Anyway it’s still a very good hotel if you have to be in that neighboorhood for a day or two.

J’ai donc été faire du shopping en journée, je vous montre mes quelques achats bientôt, j’ai été très raisonnable. :) Et puis samedi vers 17h je me suis rendue à l’Apollo. J’avoue je ne savais pas trop quand arriver pour être bien placée. A 17h la file n’était vraiment pas longue (ouf!). Et là la longue attente commence avant l’ouverture des portes (19h) et le début du concert (21h). Une chance j’y ai retrouvé Anne, une fan belge, rencontrée grâce à un forum, ainsi que quelques autres personnes de ce même forum. Cela m’a vraiment fait plaisir de mettre finalement un visage sur des pseudos, et de rencontrer des gens adorables. Pour ce premier concert nous nous sommes retrouvées au deuxième rang (victoire!).

So I went shopping during the day, I will show you what I found soon, but I didn’t spend that much. :) Then on Saturday I headed to the Apollo around 5pm. I wasn’t sure how far in advance people would be queuing but it wasn’t too long. The long wait started before the doors opening (7pm) and the start of the show (9pm). Thank God I found Anne, who is also from Belgium, and that I know from a fan forum. Also met a few other lovely people from there. For that first concert we managed second row (victory!).

La première partie était assurée par Shilpa Ray. Très belle prestation acoustique.

First act was Shilpa Ray. Really strong acoustic performance.

A 21h et pas une minute de retard nos Bad Seeds sont entrés en scène et bon à partir de là je ne vous pas vous sortir tout les synonymes de fabuleux mais je pourrais. Nick Cave était en superbe forme aussi bien vocalement que physiquement. Il a passé presque tout le concert devant nous perché sur les barrières en équilibre toujours un peu instable au grand désespoir de la sécurité! S’appuyant sur les fans pour leurs plus grand plaisir. La setlist était dominée par le nouvel album mais quelques surprises quand même. Je rêvais d’entendre From her to Eternity en live et c’est chose faite!  Le concert s’est terminé par une nouvelle chanson, ce qui était assez étonnant de leur part. J’ai hâte de savoir si elle fera déjà partie d’un nouvel album.

At 9pm sharp the Bad Seeds arrived on stage and well from that moment on I could basically use every synonym of amazing but I will spare you. Nick Cave was in top form and sounded absolutely flawless. He spent most of the concert on the barrier on the left and right side of the stage just in front of us. It’s always a scary and amazing sight to have him towering above you, not sure if the fans will be strong enough to hold him! His “security” guy sure wasn’t loving it. The setlist was a very nice mix of the new album, with a few obvious and not so obvious ones. I was so happy to finally hear From her to Eternity live!

Et dimanche on recommence! A nouveau là à 17h, on retrouve des têtes connues et des nouvelles. Peut-être à cause de l’orange tant attendu il y avait encore moins de monde donc cette fois-ci premier rang! C’est tellement mieux quand il n’y a personne devant vous! ;)

And Sunday we do that all over again! Back at 5pm with some old and new faces in the queue which wasn’t very long maybe because of the impending storm. So front row this time! It’s so much better when noone is blocking your view! ;)

Toujours Shilpa Ray en première partie, avec en plus Les Colettes, un groupe français dont la femme de Warren Ellis fait partie. Très belle découverte également. La chanteuse a vraiment la voix d’un ange.

Still Shilpa Ray as first act, as well as Les Colettes, a French band with Warren Ellis’ wife. Again loved their music! The lead singer has the voice of an angel. 

Une setlist modifiée pour notre plus grand plaisir avec quelques morceaux au piano donc le fabuleux People Ain’t No Good. Eargasm! lol A la fin du concert Nick Cave nous annnonce le décès de Lou Reed, et lui dédie Push the Sky Away… Beaucoup d’émotion dans la salle.

The setlist was slightly modified, not going to complain, and they added a few songs at the piano. One of them was People Ain’t No Good! So awesome! At the end of the concert Nick Cave told us that Lou Reed passed away and dedicated the hauntingly beautiful Push the Sky Away to him. A really touching moment.

Je suis rentrée lundi après-midi, à peine eu le temps de prendre une douche et hop repartie sur Bruxelles pour voir Texas à L’Ancienne Belgique. Je ne suis pas une méga fan mais j’apprécie beaucoup leur musique, et c’est toujours un plaisir de voir un concert à l’AB. Girl Called Johnny assurait la première partie. Très bon groupe de rock. Sans surprise le concert était génial. Sharlene a une énergie incroyable et beaucoup de respect envers les fans. Elle fait partie de ces artistes qui sont encore mieux en live que sur leurs albums!

I got home Monday in the afternoon, just in time to take a shower and head back to Brussels to see Texas at the AB. I am not a hardcore fan but really enjoy their music, and wanted to see them live at least once. Girl Called Johnny was the first act. Great rock band! They certainly are an excellent fit with Texas. Without surprise the concert was amazing. Sharlene has an incredibly energy on stage and so much respect toward her fans. She is definitely one of these artists who sounds even better live than on their albums.

Et le week-end prochain je repars à Londres car dans le cadre de cette tournée, et pour un documentaire qui devrait sortir au cinéma l’année prochaine, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds donne un concert spécial à Koko à Camden. Il fallait s’inscrire pour un premier tirage au sort avec à la clé la possibilité d’acheter 2 places. A ma grande surprise j’ai gagné et j’ai donc sauté sur l’occasion. Le concert sera filmé pour le documentaire donc c’est vraiment génial de pouvoir faire partie d’un tel événement.

I am back next week-end in London because Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds are releasing a documentary next year, and they are playing a special show in Koko Camden. That show will be filmed for the documentary! You had to enter a ballot to have a chance to win the opportunity to buy tickets and I won! I am so excited to be part of that project!
