Su-Mei Tse en Solo Show à Art Tower Mito au Japon (Mai 2009)

“Tse Su-Mei” at the Art Tower Mito, Ibaraki, introduces the works of an artist based in Luxembourg and Paris who won the Golden Lion at the 50th Venice Biennale in 2003. The daughter of a British pianist and a Chinese violinist, Tsue Su-Mei (b. 1973) trained as a cellist and has created poetic artworks that combine various mediums such as photography, sound, video and sculpture. Reflecting her mixed background, Tsue’s works explore not only music and rhythm but also Western and Eastern cultures and identity. Her first solo-exhibition in Japan, the show presents some 20 installations, sculptures and photographs, including “SUMY,” a head-phone-shaped sculpture and “L’echo,” the video installation for which she won the prize at Venice; Feb. 7-May 10.
