The American tennis player Andy Roddick has signed a new long-term sponsorship deal with Aqiss Beverage Technologies.
The no. 7 ranked Roddick will exclusively use Aqiss products on the ATP World Tour and will represent the sports beverage brand in front of the world’s media.
Roddick, who sweats three times more than the average human, said: “I am excited to be working with Aqiss. It is the first product that has met my hydration needs both in competition and training. I look forward to working with ABT to bring the same satisfaction to athletes of all levels.”
Despite Roddick having signed three other sports drink deals since turning professional in 2000, this is the first that has no immediate monetary gain for the player. Instead, Roddick has been given shares in the company.
It’s definitely not your typical endorsement deal. I’m at a point in my career where I don’t need the quick hit deals. It will be nice to grow with this brand,” Roddick added.
Aqiss president, Rudy Prajza, who expects the company’s sales to reach US$200 million in two years time said: “Andy Roddick is the perfect fit for Aqiss. We’ve shown Andy, both in the lab and on the court that Aquiss delivers a much higher level of hydration than any other beverage. We’re extremely excited that Andy is part of our team and together we will revolutionise the functional beverage industry.
The Aqiss product is expected to be available in the United States in September 2010.   [Via]
