Après trois singles infructueux en 66 et 67, Idle Race publie un nouveau single en février 1968 : "The skeleton & the roundabout (Lynne)-Knocking nails into my house (Lynne)" sans plus de succès suivi en juin par "The end of the road (Lynne)-Morning sunshine (Lynne)" mais le public ne suit pas.
En octobre 1968, paraît leur premier album : "The Birthday Party", produit par Eddie Offord & Gerald Chevin.
