I « met » Georgia O’Keeffe this summer at the Met of New York city. An experience similar to my discovery of Mark Rothko a few years ago.

Grey Line with Lavender and Yellow, oil on canvas, ca. 1923

O’Keeffe conjure up images of flower petals and human anatomy…

Black abstraction, oil on canvas, 1927

Black Iris,  oil on canvas, 1926

Monumental flower painting, with enlarged petals forcing the viewer to observe the small details

Black Place II, oil on canvas, 1944

« The Black Place » was the name O’Keeffe gave to one of her favorite painting sites in New Mexico, a place of desolate hills.
