Recently, former Bayern Munich winger Ribery said in an interview with Gazzetta dello Sport that he deserved the Ballon d'Or 2013 more than Messi and Ronaldo.

In the 2012/13 season, Ribery won the Champions League, Bundesliga and DFB Cup with Bayern Munich. He also won the European Supercup and the Club World Cup. Ribery's statistics in 2013: a total of 54 games in which he scored 23 goals and 23 assists.
However, the election of the Ballon d'Or 2013 also caused great controversy. The final result of the vote: Ronaldo won the Ballon d'Or, Messi came second and Ribery third.

"It's not fair, it was an incredible season for me. I should have won the Ballon d'Or," the 39-year-old Ribery told reporters.
"But they extended the voting periods and strange things happened. I think it was a political decision."
When Salernitana signed veteran Frenchman Ribery last summer, the whole town went crazy for his arrival.
"The fans know that I'll always be there for them: a photo, an autograph, a smile. A champion cannot only be a champion on the pitch".
"Here I felt this deep love, very deep feelings. Everyone was born for football. When we didn't win, I saw the sadness in the eyes of the fans, and that made me sad. "I never accept defeat, that's my fighting spirit. Last season I knew it was very difficult to avoid relegation, but I gave everything.
"It's not like winning a cup, but such an achievement (successful relegation) will always stay in my heart."
