Clinging to the shore, these immense wild almond trees, tall and piercing the sky (Terminalia catappa) are well known to those who came to stay at Ezile Bay, at Akwidaa, taking advantage of their refreshing and reassuring shade, serene and unchanging, so beneficial.
These are fruit trees also called almond-country or 'Abrofo Nkate' in fanti or 'obruni groundnuts' in English pidgin (Creole) from Ghana. Translation: the seeds of foreigner.
Children from the villages of Katakor and Akwidaa come in large numbers to pick almonds so prized by the wild almond tree called Indian almond or tropical almond or even country almonds.
The fruit contains a single core, very hard, containing an edible almond, with a delicate taste that resembles hazelnut. Wild almond are generally eaten raw.

Accrochés au rivage de la baie, ces badamiers immenses, altiers et perçant le ciel (Terminalia catappa) sont bien connus de celles et ceux qui sont venus séjourner à Ezile Bay, profitant de leur ombre rafraîchissante et rassurante, sereine et immuable, si bienfaisante.
Ce sont des arbres fruitiers appelés aussi amandier-pays ou « Abrofo Nkate » en fanti ou « obruni groundnuts » en anglais pidgin (créole) du Ghana. Traduction : les graines de l'étranger.
Les enfants des villages de Katakor et Akwidaa viennent en nombre ramasser les amandes si prisées du badamier appelés badames ou encore amandes pays.
Le fruit contient un seul noyau, très dur, renfermant une amande comestible, au goût délicat qui s'apparente à la noisette. Les badames, se mangent généralement crues.
