Veeam Backup and Replication, also for Hyper-V

Publié le 28 juillet 2009 par Igrec

In a post published on the Windows Virtualization Team Blog, Doug Hazelman director of the Global Systems Engineers Group at Veeam Software, a well known provider of tools for VMware ESX,  confirms Veeam’s intention to port some of its products on Hyper-V.Which products ? Sadly, Doug is not very forthcoming on the subject. Luckily, LeMagIT recently had à Chat with Ratmir Timashev, Veeam’s EO, who had a few tidbits to share on the subject of Hyper-V : “We have to support multiple hypervisors.(…) We plan to extend our offer to Hyper-V and we will do it first with our backup product. Veeam Backup and Replication should support Hyper-V in the last quarter of 2009 or the first quarter of 2010. (…) For us cross-platform is a real strategy. We believe that VMware does not provide good tools to manage Microsoft environments and that Microsoft does not provide good tools for ESX. This allows us to position ourselves between the two. “ Does Veeam also intend to support XenServer? For Timashev, the issue is not technical. The founder of Veeam argues that “ESX and XenServer architectures are so close that the port of Veeam Backup can be done quickly.”  The question however lies in market shares and market opportunity.”Citrix have to prove they are able to build a robust installed base”  explains Timashev, for Veeam to extend its tools to suport the XenServer platform…

Does Veeam cross-platform strategy extend to Citrix XenServer? For Timashev, the issue is not a technical one.
