Most of the city's parks are pretty traditionnal: playgrounds, baseball field, picnic tables, sometimes pavec or unpaved trails for walkers and bikers.Via Facebook we found out about some sort of a guided walk through a park we were unaware of. So we went to Dr. George Washington Carver park located right behind the townhall and the courthouse.

The park can be accessed two way, either at 30 George Washington Carver Ave, or via the footbridge that starts on Davidson St., right behind the townhall and the detention center. The footbridge is getting invaded by kiudzu. If this plant is invading, chocking and destroying spaces around it, it does however give quite a charming look to the footbridge, turning it into a green tunnel.

This parc was created about ten years ago in the former site of a landfill. The trash being replaced by an orchard. It's managed by the non profit Bountiful Cities whose goal is to creat spaces producing food and encouraging citizens to maintain them. In fact neat the main building of the park there is a little community garden growing some vegetables.

I found this park very pleasant, a little bubble in the middle of the town.

There are all sorts of fruit trees: apple, pear, hazelnut (a surprise as I had not seen those in the US yet), a peach tree. If peaches are grown in the South, that's mainly in Georgia and South Carolina, however those are trying their best in this little parc.

A mulberry tree, we also have on in the neighbors yard, the berries are eaten when black.

Fig trees.

And a tree whose name I can not remember but that produces some odd fruits.

Since it's a public park the fruits are available to pick by the inhabitants, the volunteers only hope that there is no abuse and that people only pick what they need. They also always need volunteers who can help every 2nd monday of the month from 4-7pm and the 4th saturday of the month from 10am-13pm.
