Concert – Boy George & Day One – Ancienne Belgique

Je suis un peu trop jeune pour avoir connu Boy George et Culture Club quand ils étaient numéro 1 dans les charts, mais comme beaucoup de monde je connais tout leurs tubes car ils n’ont pas pris une ride. Il y a 10 ans déjà, j’avais eu l’occasion de voir Boy George dans la comédie musicale Taboo qui racontait sa vie. Il ne jouait pas son propre rôle mais celui de Leigh Bowery, un artiste très important dans les années 80/90. Bref  je l’ai trouvé vraiment fantastique. Une décennie plus tard, Boy George revient au devant de la scène en grande forme avec un nouvel album ainsi qu’un look un petit plus sage.

I am a bit too young to have known about Boy George and Culture Club when they were on top of the charts, but like many people I do know all their hits because they’ve truly not aged. Ten years ago, I saw him in the musical Taboo which was based on his life. He didn’t play his own role but the one of Leigh Bowery, a very important artist in the 80s/90s. Anyway he was fantastic and I really wanted to see him perform again. Ten years later, he is back on stage with a new album and a new (tamer) look.

La première partie était assurée par Day One. Je ne connaissais pas mais apparement ils ont participé au programme néerlandophone Eurosong qui avait pour but de désigner un représentant pour l”Eurovision. Leur prestation n’était pas mauvaise mais j’avoue que ce n’est pas trop mon style musical.

The first act was Day One. I didn’t know them but apparently they took part in the Flemish reality show Eurosong which designated a singer for the Eurovision. They weren’t bad but to be honest it’s really not my kind of music.

Boy George et ses musiciens (ils sont quand même dix) sont entrés en scène à 21h et nous ont emmené dans les années 80 pendant 1h30. Une chouette setlist mixant les tubes les plus connus avec des titres du nouvel album. Petit moment de solitude quand même car Boy George n’aime pas les gens qui filment en continu pendant qu’il chante. Il le fait savoir d’abord gentillement mais voilà quelqu’un au milieu du public continue à photographier et avec flash. En quelques secondes le voilà au milieu du public pour remettre ce monsieur en place! Et puis il est sorti de scène pendant quelques minutes. Les musiciens avaient l’air un peu désemparés mais pas vraiment surpris. Même si j’aime bien avoir quelques photos en souvenir, je ne comprendrais jamais les gens qui regardent tout le concert à travers leur GSM. Gros coup de coeur pour Church of the Poison Mind et It Ain’t Me Babe en version acoustique.

Boy George and his musicians came on stage at 9pm and transported us back to the 80s during 90 minutes. The setlist was a really good mix of hits and new songs, with a few covers. It did get a little awkward when Boy George nicely complained that people stop filming him all the time and just enjoy the show. But then someone in the middle of the audience continued and with flash! So he jumped in the crowd to have a little chat with the guy! When he came back on stage, he actually walked out of it for a few minutes. The musicians didn’t quite know what to do but didn’t seem too surprised about his reaction. I really love to have a few pictures as a souvenir, but I will never understand people who watch the whole concert through their cellphones. Anyway the songs that stood out the most for me were Church of the Poison Mind and It Ain’t Me Babe en version acoustique.
