Escale à Kingston, les Catskills au nord de New York

Sortons un peu de New York pour découvrir ce qu’il se trouve plus au nord, dans les Catskills. La ville de Kingston se situe à environ 1h30 en voiture de Manhattan et représente la parfaite escapade pour un weekend au calme. Manhattan, Brooklyn, c’est bien beau tout ça, mais H-24 et à l’année, c’est éreintant alors toutes les occasions sont bonnes pour s’évader un peu, même le temps d’un weekend.
Nous avons donc fait escale à Kingston. Petite ville paisible au bord de l’eau, elle a été la première capitale de l’état de New York et s’est également vue brûler (par les Anglais – oh Boy). Un passé historique chaotique qui n’a certainement pas empêché ses habitants à reconstruire leur ville. Une architecture non sans rappeler celle du Far West mais en plus colorée (si t’as lu Lucky Luke, tu vois de quoi je parle). Bref, si les routes étaient encore en terre battue, j’imagine bien les saloons.
A Kingston, on visite, on erre dans les petites boutiques vintage, on se fait un brunch chez Dominick’s Café, on prend un petit-déjeuner dans le très antique Outdated Café, ou on file manger des huîtres en terrasse et siroter un Bloody Mary dans un des restaurants au bord de l’eau. Bref à Kingston, vous l’avez compris, le temps s’arrête, on ralentit et on profite! Bon weekend.

Let’s go out of New York City for a bit to explore The Catskills. Located only an hour and a half by car, Kingston is the perfect spot for a getaway weekend. Manhattan, Brooklyn, it’s all-good, but after a long week of work, it’s always beneficial to get out of the city and breathe.
So there we went, to Kingston. A small and cozy little town by the river, Kingston was the first capital of New York and even faced destruction (by the British – oh bad boys).  Its chaotic and historic past encouraged locals to reconstruct the town. I could not stop thinking about the architecture in the Wild West (if you have read Lucky Luke, you know what I am talking about). If its streets were untouched, I could totally see people emerging from a saloon.
In Kingston, you visit, you shop in vintage boutiques, you enjoy a brunch at Dominick’s Café or a tasty breakfast at the antique Outdated Café, you enjoy oysters while sipping on a Bloody Mary along the waterfront… In fact, while in Kingston, it feels like time has stopped. You just need to slow down and enjoy your stay.
