L’apparition des day-bed remonte à 3100 avant JC par les Égyptiens. Contrairement aux populations asiatiques qui ne font pas la différence avec un lit et aux Amérindiens qui préfèrent le hamac, les autres populations nobles se déplacent beaucoup et optent pour un mobilier portable et plus léger.
