What Do You Need In Your Emergency Survival Kit

A survival kit basically means a package containing basic survival supplies and tools for use during emergency situations. You will find survival kits in life boats, military transportations, spacecrafts and even in civilian mode of transports throughout the world.

They come in various sizes; there are even survival kits in the form of bug out bags that you would even find portable shelters in them. Not only that, you would also find emergency rations, water, first aid kits, multipurpose tools, swiss army knives, sewing kit even fish hooks to name a few.

Prepare A Survival Kit That Fits Your Emergency

Folks who work in remote areas, where emergency help is not available or is far away, they must also equip themselves with survival kits that suit their environment and purpose. Disaster supplies are most critical however, for those who live in earthquake or natural disaster prone areas. The emergency needs will also be different for population who are exposed to typhoon or flood prone regions. So, it is important to first identify the risks or possible risks that you may potentially be faced with, then prepare a survival kit that suits the situation.

Basic Survival Kit List

1. Shelter

There are many kinds of survival shelter available in the market that comes with a variety of materials. Its selection will depend very much on your geographical locations.

2. Blanket

You will need blankets to keep your body warm. A good choice would be blankets that are Mylar coated for its light and water resistant property.

3. Lightweight Poncho

Ponchos are a blessing during a disaster. They are lightweight for one and are great for protection against rain and wind. They can also be used to collect rain water if you need to.

4. Bivvy Bag

Bivvy bags or more commonly known as tube tents are good choices to have in your survival kit as they are compact and easy to pack in your bug out bag.

5. Large Plastic Bags

Plastic bags make good diy shelters, ponchos and also as a means to store and collect water.

6. Fire Starters

During a disaster it is important that you have a source to make or start fire. This could be your usual matches or even better, water-proof matches. A more improved version would be the magnesium fire-starter, a fire striker or a common lighter.

7. Cotton Balls

Cotton balls are very useful for treating injuries in case a mishap should happen and they also form a good fire starter when smeared in kerosene or petroleum jelly. They of course, are vey portable. You can store them in container, a zip lock bag or just stuff them in a plastic bag and sealed with a rubber band.

8. Other Emergency Kit

Other survival kit essentials include a sleeping bag, bandages, gauze pads, adhesive tapes, rubbing alcohol, antibiotic cream, burn cream, aspirin, sunscreen (if applicable), extra clothing, snare wire and even a canteen for water will be great.
