What can we expect from 2009, in the Swedish music scene? Well, there are some "new" artists/bands who might explode this year. Here is one of them... Hanna Baummann.
The main goal of this blog is to give artists such as Hanna Baummann a wider audience than they have right now. This is what I tried to do in my previous post about her.
Hanna is not well known in the Swedish music scene. Not yet. She could be just one of those young girls with a MySpace page and dreams of making it in the tough music world. But to me, Miss Baummann has a specific touch that leads her to write some brilliant songs such as Moods or I picked a fight, which could easily figure in the Miss Li discography.
Will she have a bright future or never actually make it? Impossible to know. I guess this has a little bit to do with talent and a lot with chance. But it is also up to you. Consequently, how about listening to her music and reading her answers to my questions?

How would you describe your music?
I think I would say it's a bit mellow but with a happy twist. I believe in simplicity and beauty and that's a motto I'm trying to compose after.
What do you think of the Fiona Apple and Miss Li comparison with your music?
I'm flattered, of course! They are both two very talented musicians, but it's always hard to step out of yourself and really listen and analyze your own music and hear someone else's voice/songs in it. It's always interesting to hear other people's point of view, though it's hard to hear it yourself.
You told me you were studying music theory at the University. Has it an impact on your music?
Well, I wouldn't say it had an impact, but I learnt a lot about harmonies and chords that I've used in my own songs since then.
Have you played in bands before?
Yes, I played in an amazingly corny rock/pop band called Delirious a couple of years ago. It was fun when we played covers but then I started to write the music and the others weren't really jumping of joy. They thought the songs were too slow and finally we split up. It's a lot easier to have other talented people playing with me, and when I get to decide how I want it!
What kind of music do you listen to? Some Swedish artists?
I usually get caught up in something and only listen to that (I feel very sorry for my neighbours!). I love pop music but I'm not very good at finding new artists to fall for. At the moment I'm listening to Duffy and Imogen Heap, two gourgeaus and extremely talented women! I can't say that I'm listening to any Swedish artists except my friends Jenny Björkqvist (who is also playing with me) and Victoria Winderud. They both deserve a very bright future in the tough music business.
Your plans for 2009? Finding a label? Record an album?
I would like to gig as much as possible. I'm always looking for contacts and I'm trying to make people listen to what I do. If you just try hard enough, I believe that at least one person could love my music and that person has other contacts and so on... one day you just might get lucky. The dream is to be able to play at one of the summer musicfestivals in Sweden this year.
I'm also hoping to record another ep. I just need to find the time and the disciplin...I have a couple of songs that are just waiting to be recorded and that, at least I, think are quite fantastic.
I would also like to go abroad and try to make myself a name, in France or Britain perhaps.

Que peut-on attendre de 2009 dans la scène musicale suédoise ? Et bien, certains "nouveaux" artistes/groupes pourraient véritablement exploser cette année. En voici une... Hanna Baummann.
Le but principal de ce blog reste d'accroître l'audience d'artistes tels qu'Hanna Baummann. C'est ce que j'ai tenté de faire lors de mon précédent billet la concernant.
Hanna est inconnue dans la scène musicale suédoise. Du moins, pour l'instant. Elle pourrait n'être qu'une de ces jeunes filles avec une page MySpace et des rêves de réussite dans le monde cruel de la musique. Mais, selon moi, Miss Baummann possède cette touche particulière qui lui permet d'écrire des chansons aussi réussies que Moods ou I picked a fight, qui pourraient aisément figurer dans la discographie de Miss Li.
Qu'adviendra-t-il d'elle ? Impossible de savoir. J'imagine que cela devra un peu au talent et beaucoup à la chance. Mais c'est aussi à vous de décider, d'une certaine manière. Alors, pourquoi pas écouter ses chansons et lire ses réponses à mes questions ?
Comment décrirais-tu ta musique ?
Je dirais qu'elle est douce, mais avec un "twist" gai. Je crois dans la simplicité et dans la beauté et c'est la ligne directrice de ce que j'essaie de suivre lorsque je compose.
Que penses-tu d'une comparaison entre ta musique et celles de Fiona Apple et Miss Li ?
Ca me flatte, bien-sûr ! Elles sont toutes les deux de très talentueuses musiciennes, mais c'est toujours délicat de sortir de soi-même et d'écouter et d'analyser sa propre musique. C'est toujours intéressant d'écouter le point de vue de quelqu'un d'autre, mais c'est difficile d'y réfléchir tout seul par soi-même.
Tu m'as dit que tu étudiais la théorie musicale à l'Université. Ca a eu un impact sur ta musique ?
Et bien, je ne dirais pas que cela a eu un impact, mais j'ai appris beaucoup sur les harmonies et les accords que j'ai utilisés ensuite dans mes chansons.
Tu as déjà joué dans un groupe ?
Oui, il y a deux ou trois ans, j'ai joué dans un étonnant groupe de pop/rock un peu cucul qui s'appelait Delirious. C'était sympa quand on jouait des reprises, mais ensuite j'ai commencé à écrire et les autres n'ont pas vraiment étaient fous de joie. Ils trouvaient mes chansons trop calmes et nous avons fini par nous séparer. C'est beaucoup plus facile d'avoir des gens talentueux à mes côtés tout en décidant de la direction où je veux aller !
Quel genre de musique écoutes-tu ? Des artistes suédois ?
D'habitude, j'accroche à quelque chose et je n'écoute plus que ça (que mes voisins me pardonnent !). J'adore la pop, mais je ne suis pas très douée pour dénicher de nouveaux artistes. Actuellement, j'écoute Duffy et Imogen Heap, deux splendides et extrêmement talentueuses femmes ! Je ne dirais pas que j'écoute des artistes suédois, hormis mes amies Jenny Björkqvist (qui joue aussi à mes côtés) etVictoria Winderud. Toutes deux méritent un avenir radieux dans ce dur métier qu'est la musique.
Tes plans pour 2009 ? Trouver un label ? Enregistrer un disque ?
J'aimerais faire le plus de concerts possible. Je cherche en permanence des contacts et j'essaie de faire écouter ma musique au plus grand nombre. Si tu y crois vraiment, tu te dis qu'au moins une personne appréciera ta musique et cette personne aura des contacts, etc. Un jour tu peux bien finir par avoir un coup de bol. Le rêve serait de pouvoir jouer à l'un des festivals d'été en Suède cette année.
J'espère pouvoir aussi enregistrer un autre EP. Je dois juste trouver le temps et la discipline... J'ai deux ou trois chansons qui attendent juste d'être enregistrées et qui sont, selon moi, plutôt fantastiques.
J'aimerais aussi voyager à l'étranger et me faire un nom, en France ou en Grande-Bretagne peut-être.
