I'm gonna be direct : if I have never mentionned Martin McFaul in this blog before, it is because I was not really impressed by his previous songs. However he is signed on Imperial Recordings, the home of José Gonzalez and of the brilliant Samuraj Cities, Promise & the Monster and Melpo Mene. So when I received a couple of his new songs, I did not actually plan to write a post about them, but I paid attention. Wise choice.
Sha la la will be featured on Martin McFaul second record Sha la love which will be out in September. It is a simple song with nothing particular. No great voice. No incredible lyrics. The most noticeable thing is a discrete bossa nova guitar. Not a "sexy" tune then, but it grows on you and that is the most important. Something unusual even happened to me : I could listen to it ten times in a row without getting bored. Since the other song I heard is a good one too, I'm looking forward to listening to the whole record. It might turn out to be a pleasant surprise.

Je vais être franc : si je n'ai jamais parlé de Martin McFaul dans ce blog, c'est parce que je n'ai jamais été impressioné par ses chansons passées. Mais il est signé chez Imperial Recordings, la maison de José Gonzalez et des excellents Samuraj Cities, Promise & the Monster et Melpo Mene. Alors quand j'ai reçu ses nouvelles chansons, j'y ai prêté attention. Je ne pensais pas malgré tout écrire un billet à son sujet.
Sha la la figure sur le deuxième disque de Martin McFaul Sha la love, prévu pour septembre prochain. C'est une chanson simple sans rien de particulier. Pas de voix magnifique. Pas de paroles incroyables. Le plus notable reste cette discrète mélodie bossa nova. Ce Sha la la n'est sans doute pas un tube "sexy", mais il s'incruste dans votre esprit : je me suis surpris à l'écouter une dizaine de fois d'affilée sans aucun ennui. C'est rare. Et puisque l'autre titre que j'ai entendu de Martin est lui-aussi plutôt convaincant, j'attends désormais son prochain album avec curiosité. Ce pourrait être une bonne surprise.
