Outasight est un nouvel artiste pour nous, mais son buzz grandit depuis fin 2008 sur les blogs US. Cet artiste new-yorkais mixe habilement chant et mcing. Le résultat est un son frais à la croisée des chemin entre plusieurs styles. Outasight est un artiste à découvrir absolument. Salut Outasight ! Peux-tu te présenter pour le public français qui ne te connaîtrais pas encore ?

Hey... Mon nom est Outasight. Je suis un chanteur/rappeur de New York City, qui tente depuis quelques années de travailler dur pour faire connaître son nom en faisant des morceaux originaux spécialement pour vous les auditeurs ! Quelles sont tes influences ?

Mes influences vont de grands artistes comme les Beatles, Stevie Wonder et Marvin Gaye aux grands du hip-hop comme Jay-Z, Mos Def et A Tribe Called Quest. Je suis vraiment un dingue de musique, il y a énormément de chansons et d'artistes qui m'ont aidé dans mon inspiration pour créer des chansons...

Tu connais des artistes français ?

Non ! Mais il faut m'apprendre ! J'aimerais beaucoup en écouter... Un de mes films favoris est un film français, La Haine, qui est un drame rude en noir et blanc sur trois jeunes qui vivent dans un quartier dur... C'est un film incroyable !

Dans ta chanson "Everything is Alright", on apprend d'où ton nom vient.  C'est à cause de cette chanson de Stevie Wonder que tu as décidé de commencer la musique ?

Pas vraiment. Je me suis donné ce nom à cause de ma nature mytérieuse que j'ai depuis bien longtemps, mais on a pensé que ce serait marrant de mettre sur l'instrumentale, cette boucle de Stevie chantant "Outasight...". C'était un titre vraiment marrant à faire !

Tu mélanges souvent les styles entre le chant et le mcing. Comment tu définis ton style musical ?

C'est une sorte de hip-hop hybride... Très mélodique, avec beaucoup d'harmonies, déjà influencés principalement par le hip-hop surtout en ce qui concerne les productions. C'est un croisement entre hip-hop, soul et peut-être aussi un peu de pop. Je fais juste ce qui me vient naturellement. Je n'ai jamais planifié si j'allais chanter ou rapper, et ça semble marcher pour l'instant. (Rires)

Depuis le début de l'année, ton buzz grandit sur les blogs. Comment les gens réagissent quand ils écoutent tes chansons ? Tu as déjà eu des retour de "gros" artistes du rapgame qui t'ont dit qu'ils souaitaient travailler avec toi ou tout simplement qu'ils aimaient ta musique ?

Les réactions ont vraiment été positives surtout récemment. Les retours pour "Brand New Day" (premier single de son album à venir) ont été vraiment énormes ! Je me sens vraiment béni pour ça et aussi parce que j'ai eu l'incroyable plaisir de travailler ou de parler avec des artistes comme Ryan Leslie, Usher, M.O.P. ou Buckwild il y a peu de temps. Le simple fait d'écouter ces artistes parler de cet art et du business m'a fait apprendre beaucoup et je suis vraiment reconnaissant d'avoir ces opportunités.

Tu es toujours habillé de manière élégante. Bien que les choses changent, c'est toujours rare dans cette musique de voir des artistes bien habillés. C'est un choix de ta part ?

Je m'habille de manière très classique, sans mettre des vêtements pleins de logos. J'essaie de porter des choses qui étaient fashion il y a une vingtaine d'années. Je mets des chemises, des pantalons et des vestes bien taillés  la plupart du temps. J'adore ça, c'est une sorte d'extension de moi-même.

Je vois que tu travailles beaucoup avec 6th Sense. Comment vous vous êtes rencontrés ? Comment tu travailles avec lui ?

Nous nous sommes rencontrés en décembre par le biais d'un un ami en commun et on a commencé à travailler ensemble dans la foulée. Nous sommes tous les deux des passionnés de musique qui vivons dans le même quartier, donc on passe la majeure partie de notre temps à essayer de faire un morceau meilleur que le précédent. C'est vraiment une recherche constante de stabilité qui nous fait avancer, et qui nous rend cent fois meilleur qu'un artiste.

"Brand New Day" vient juste d'être laché sur les blogs. C'est ton premier single de ton album à venir ?

Yup! Premier single de mon album à venir qui s'appelle "From Here to Eternity". Pour moi ce son me permet de me sentir bien et j'espère que sa donne cette sensation aux gens aussi.

Tu peux nous en dire plus From Here To Eternity ?

Le thème de l'album, c'est une sorte de succession de chroniques du voyage d'un homme du présent jusqu'à la possibilité d'être éternel. Quand vous êtes fiers de ce que vous accomplissez, dans votre art, votre métier, vous comprenez qu'il y a une possiblité que cet art puisse vivre après vous, et c'est quelque chose pour lequel je lutte.. donc, voilà pourquoi c'est From Here to Eternity.

Quels sont les artistes et producteurs que tu as convié pour ton album ?

J'ai beaucoup travaillé avec 6th Sense et Cook Classics qui vient de Los Angeles et qui a un talent énorme. J'ai aussi quelques gros noms sur l'album mais je préfère garder la surprise, donc vous devez attendre encore ! Ca va être dingue !

Tu peux nous en dire plus à propos du projet Table For Six avec 6th Sense, Cook Classics, Nieve, Tunji et toi ? Qu'elle est l'idée de ce projet ? Vous travaillez déjà dessus où vous allez le faire après la sortir de ton album ?

Table For Six est l'équipe de production que forme 6th Sens et Cook Classics. Pendant que 6th et moi vivions à L.A. pour mixer des chansons, nous avons commencer à tous bosser sur des sons et ils ont décidé de former leur propre équipe. Cette session freestyle c'était juste nous qui étions tous là au même moment, au même endroit, mais il n'y a pas vraiment de projet en route bien que j'ai de l'amour pour Nieve et Tunji qui sont des gros mc's et de bons gars en général.

Quels sont tes projets et collaborations à venir ?

J'ai vraiment pas mal de mal de morceaux qui sont prêts, donc regardez tout ce qui va arrivé sur le net cet été histoire de vous gardez chauds en attendant que l'album arrive.

Comment imagines-tu ton futur dans le monde du la musique ?

J'aimerais avoir mon avoir mon propre courant à partir du style original que j'amène. Quand je pense au futur, je ne pense pas à la gloire et la célébrité, je pense plus à la chance pour des millions de personnes de pouvoir écouter la musique que je crée et grâce à cela pouvoir parcourir le monde pour faire des concerts. Je veux être connu pour resté vrai dans mon art tout en étant viable commercialement. Un équilibre dur à trouver je crois...

What are you influences ?

My influences range from such great artists as The Beatles, Stevie Wonder, and Marvin Gaye to hip hop greats like Jay Z, Mos Def, and a Tribe Called Quest. Truly, I'm a music nerd, so many different songs and artists have helped inspire me when it comes to creating music....

Do you know some french artists ?

I dont! School me to the game! I would love to hear some...One of my favorite films of all time is a french film though, Le Haine, which is a gritty black and white drama about 3 french youths living in a tough area...Its an incredible film!

In "Everything is Alright", we learn from where your name comes from. It's from this Stevie Wonder song that you decided to start music ?

Not really. I earned the name from my sometimes mysterious nature a long while back, but we thought it would be fun to take that record and put a fun spin on it with Stevie singen "Outasight.." It was a fun record to make for sure.....

You still mix styles between singing and mcing, so can you define your musical style ?

Its a hip hop hybrid of sorts...Very melodic, lot of harmonies, yet still mainly influenced by hip hop, especially on the production side...Its a cross between hip hop, soul, and maybe even some mainstream pop. I just do what comes naturally really...I never plan whether I'm going to sing or rap, and it just seems to work out well...haha

Since the beginning of this year, your buzz is growing up on blogs. How people react when they hear your songs ? Do you already have contact with "big" artists of rapgame who told you they want to work with you or just they love what you do ?

The reaction has really been positive, especially recently. The response on"Brand New Day" has been overwhelming! I feel truly blessed in that regard and that I have had the incredible pleasure of working with or speaking to such great artists and producers as Ryan Leslie,Usher,MOP, and Buckwild in my short time. Just listening to these artists speak about the art and the game has made me learn plenty, and I am truly thankful to even have these opportunities.

You're still dressed in a elegant way ? Even if things are changing, it's still rare to see artists in this music style dressed well. It is a choice ?

I dress in a very classic style. Not many logos. I try and wear things that were in fashion 20 years ago and will be in another 20. Dress shirts, tailored slacks, and well cut suits fill my closest for the most part. I enjoy it, its an extension of who I am...

I see, that you work a lot with 6th Sense. How did you met each other ? How do you work with him ?

6th and I met in December through a mutual friend and began working together right away. We're both music lovers and live in the same area, so we spend the majority of our time in the studio trying to make each record better than the last. Its the constant and impossible search for perfection that drives us, and he has made me 100 times better as an artist.

"Brand New Day" has just been leaked on blogs. It's your first single from your upcoming album ?

Yup! First single off my album coming soon called "From Here to Eternity"..Its such a personal fave of mine...To me the record just feels so good and hopefully make people feel the same!

Can you tell us more about your upcoming album From Here To Eternity ?

The theme basically chronicles one man's journey from the present to the possible realm of being timeless. When you pride yourself in your art, in your craft, you understand that there is a possibility that the same very art may live way beyond you, and that is something I strive for...so, its  "From Here to Eternity..."

Who are the artists and producers you chose to work with for this album ?

I worked alot with 6th and LA producer Cook Classics, who really is a huge talent. I also have some big name surprises on the album that you will just have to wait for! Its gonna be ill...

Can you tell us more about Table For Six project with you, 6th Sense, Cook Classics, Nieve & Tunji ? What is the idea of this project ? You're already working on a project or you're gonna do this after your album ?

Table for 6 is actually the production team of 6th Sense and Cook Classics. While 6th and I were living out in LA mixing records we all started working on joints and they decided to form their own squad...That freestyle session was us all being there at the right time, right place, so there is no exact project in the works although I got nothing but love for Tunji and Nieve, both dope emcee's and great people in general.

What are your others upcoming projects or collaborations ?

Well I certainly got plenty of records ready to go, so look for more records joints to spring up on the net throughout the summer to keep yall warm as the album approaches.

How do you imagine your future in music world ?

I would like to have my own lane in the music world from the original style I bring. When I think about the future, I dont think about the stardom or the fame, I think about the chance for millions of people to hear the music I create, and then for me to be able to see the world and perform...I want to be known for staying true to art yet still being commerically viable...A tough balance I know...
