L’album de la maturité, les White Stripes excellent d’un bout à l’autre de cet album qui trouve enfin un écho, d’abord en Angleterre (#55 UK j'ai toujours dit que ces gens avaient bon goût), avant de trouver la popularité avec le single “Fell in love with a girl” et un premier clip génial (avec les legos) mis en scène par le français Michel Gondry, début d’une longue collaboration fructueuse.

Plusieurs singles et un succès toujours plus important en Grande Bretagne :

“Hotel Yorba” (#26 UK)

“Fell in love with a girl” (#121 US-#21 UK)

“Dead leaves and the dirty ground” (#25 UK), autre clip signé Gondry.

En 2002 pour le magazine musical “Mojo”, les White Stripes offrent un titre inédit “Red death at 6:14”.

En Novembre 2002, les White Stripes publient un single de Noël : “Candy cane children-The reading of the story of the magi-The singing of silent night”.
