Un album souvent critiqué, mais que j’adore, sans doute pour le côté très personnel, autobiographique des chansons, Townshend remplaçant d’ailleurs Daltrey au chant sur quelques titres.

Un album à la pochette géniale, une de plus, dessinée par John Entwistle .

Des chansons volontiers mélancoliques (les sublimes “They are all in love” et “Blue red and grey” avec Pete Townshend au chant et au ukulele), mais qui montrent avec “Squeeze box” et surtout “Success story” que les Who n’ont rien perdu de leur humour déjanté.

“Success story” fait bien évidemment référence à l’histoire des Who (j’irais loin si je casse ma guitare) mais aussi à Little Richard (il y a un chanteur de rock’n’roll à la télévision qui abandonne sa musique pour entrer en religion).
