There’s not really much room for manoeuvre when two white-hot talents like this combine. They are Umek and Stefano Noferini. The result is clearly something that will end up under the folder marked ‘bomb’. Indeed, Slovenian techno overlord Umek that we interviewed some weeks ago, continues to embrace his housey side, teaming up with Italian veteran Stefano Noferini for the feisty “Complementary Access”. It will be released soon under the imprint Great Stuff Music.

Umek needs little introduction, having single-handedly put his country on the dance music map around the turn of the millennium with his driving, riff-led take on groovy techno. It’s fair to say that he was one of the pioneers in taking the genre to more accessible, wider territories and developing that ubiquitous big room techno sound.

Noferini meanwhile has been an integral part of his country’s house music development since the early-‘90s, but it’s the last couple of years that have seen his profile explode globally. Beatport Top 10s, a hugely-popular radio show and releases on Toolroom Records, Azuli, Joia, Stealth Records to name but a few. And of course, Umek’s own 1605 imprint.

Which brings us back round to “Complementary Access”. Where collaborations often have the tendency to feel unfocused and over-cluttered with ideas, these two pros keep things simple and highly effective. Umek’s techy percussion meets one of Noferini’s rolling grooves, and the pair pepper their fusion with a nagging, stabbing bleep riff that bores its way inside your head like a veritable tuneworm. It’s one to take things up a notch, and should make a very useful addition to any discerning selector’s b.

Il n’y a pas vraiment beaucoup de marge de manœuvre lorsque deux talents comme ceux-ci se combinent. Il s’agit ici d’Umek et de Stefano Noferini. Le résultat est clairement un titre qui finira avec l’étiquette «bombe». En effet, le slovène Umek, figure de proue de la scène techno mondiale, que nous avions interviewé il y a quelques semaines, continue de faire vivre son côté housy, en s'associant avec le vétéran italien Stefano Noferini, pour le fougueux titre «Complementary Access». Ce track sortira prochainement sur le label Great Stuff Music.

Umek a besoin d’une petite introduction, ayant à lui seul mis son pays sur la carte de la musique de la musique électronique depuis plus de 10 ans, avec ses riffs endiablés à la fois groovy et techno. On peut même dire sans hésiter qu'il fut l'un des premiers à rendre ce genre accessible à tous, dans de nombreux lieux de la planète, au même titre que Carl Cox, en développant une techno omniprésente taillée pour les gros clubs.

Noferini a quant à lui entre-temps été un des facteurs clés de succès de la house music dans son pays, depuis le début des années 90, mais c’est seulement depuis deux ans qu’il a explosé sur la scène mondiale. On lui doit ainsi de nombreux Top 10s de Beatport, une émission de radio extrêmement populaire et des sorties sur Toolroom Records, Azuli, Joia, Stealth Records pour n'en nommer que quelques-uns. Et bien sûr, des tracks sur le propre label d’Umek : 1605.

Le duo nous produit ici le titre “Complementary Access”. Alors que les collaborations ont souvent tendance à être floue et encombrée d'idées, nos deux poids lourds réussissent à garder les choses simples et efficaces. Aux percussions techy d’Umek répondent les grooves roulants de Noferini, le tout étant saupoudré d’un riff poignardant, qui creusera son chemin dans votre tête comme un véritable ver ! Ils ont réussi donc à coupler leurs forces pour passer à l’étage supérieur. Mission réussie.
