"Cities Under Siege" (Stephen Graham)

Voici la vidéo d'une intervention (en anglais) du géographe Stephen Graham, qui a notamment écrit Cities Under Siege: The New Military Urbanism (Verso, Londres, 2010, 402 p.) et dirigé l'ouvrage Cities, War and Terrorism. Towards an Urban Geopolitics (Blackwell Publishing, 2004, 384 p.) dans lequel il signe les chapitres "Cities as Strategic Sites: Place Annihilation and Urban Geopolitics" et "Constructing Urbicide by Buldozer in the Occupied Territories". Cette conférence a eu lieu le 7 juin 2010 à la New Academic Building. Par son approche spatiale des conflictualités urbaines et des aménagements de l'espace public pour établir un urbanisme de contrôle, c'est avant tout une réflexion sur la ville, l'urbanité et l'habiter que propose Stephen Graham à travers ses différentes publications. Son analyse des dispositifs sécuritaires dans les villes dépasse en effet le contexte particulier de la guerre, et l'on retrouve là la tentation d'un urbanisme de contrôle qui avait déjà régi l'urbanisme dit "hygiéniste" (depuis les aménagements haussmanniens dans les villes françaises, notamment Paris et Lyon, jusqu'aux urbanismes communistes, depuis les aménagements des villes de l'ex-URSS par Staline ou l'urbanisme titiste dans les périphéries des villes ex-yougoslaves).
