Ori Gersht

Le travail d’Ori Gersht est un trait d’union entre le passé et le présent. Aidé des dernières technologies numériques, Gersht revisite poétiquement de grands thèmes comme la peinture de paysage romantique du 19ème siècle, la nature morte ou l’Holocauste; thèmes qui font paraître dans ses oeuvres une tension incontestable entre beauté et violence, souvenir et Histoire.

Cherchant non seulement à pousser l’appareil photo numérique aux limites de ce qu’il peut enregistrer, mais inventant aussi des manières nouvelles de filmer et prendre des vues, Gersht mène des recherches esthétiques novatrices qui interrogent sur la matérialité-même du medium photographique .

Ori Gersht est né à Tel Aviv en 1967. Son travail a été exposé à la Tate Britain, au Victoria & Albert Museum (Londres, UK), à l’Hirschhorn Museum (Washington, USA), au Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, USA), au Centro Andaluz De La Fotografia (Almeria) et au MARCO (Vigo, Spain).

Ori Gersht is a conduit between the past and the present. With the latest digital technology, Gersht’s work poetically revisits sources ranging from 19th-century romantic landscape painting to the Holocaust, which imbue his work with a compelling tension between beauty and violence, memory and history.

Engaging in that difficult arena of not only pushing the photographic camera to the limits of what it can record, but also working in innovative ways with film and video, Gersht’s highly researched aesthetic has an instinctive innovative approach to the materiality of his medium.
